Professionally oriented communication is the main condition for the existence of professional society. These skills of professional communication are acquired at the university. Moreover, a foreign language is compulsory component of the preparation of young specialists. There are plenty of different methods among which the method of debates has become one of the most popular and promising. Firstly, because it implies not only development of analytical skills but also is great speaking practice .

Our experiment was conducted basing on the students of economic faculty of Vologda State University. The participants of the experiment included 48 first- and second-year students. These are 4 groups of students whose specialties are Management and Economic theory and analysis. All participants study English .

The first stage of the experiment included recitation and written test to analyze the language level in professional sphere and skills of professionally oriented communication. The second stage was the development of the tasks set aimed at training the students on professionally oriented communication with the help of debates method. The set was made for 16 lessons. It provided preparation and conducting of four debates on the following topics: Russias joining of WTO is a hard blow for the Economy of the country, EU economic policy makes the Union stronger, Toughening sanctions against Iran leads to war and State administration impedes Russian economy. The topics of the debates is of interest for the students of economic faculty and corresponds to their specialty. These topics are acute not only in our country but in the whole world. The ability to orient in world economic processes is of vital importance for an economist .

At the third stage the lessons were organized as debates with the topics of importance for the students of the given specialty. The fourth stage was the final lesson which included recitation in the form of dialogues and a written test for reexamination and revealing of the level of professionally oriented communication skills in English. The fifth stage included the processing of the received data with the help of mathematical statistics .

By processing the received data, we determined the level of professionally oriented communication skills in English. As the data turned out to be practically equal we divided groups into control and experimental one, 24 participants in each group. We showed the equivalence of the groups with the help of non-parametric test

Mann-Whitney U-test using the following characteristics as criteria: the number of mistakes in the written test; the time which is spent to form a phrase; the number of words in a minute; the number of phonetic mistakes. Mann-Whitney U-test is used to assess the difference between two selections by the level of some quantifiable characteristic [1] .

In our experiment to assess the effectiveness of the conducted training with the help of the debates method we used preliminary and final examination by all criteria in control and experimental groups .

The results of the experiment were assessed and interpreted with the help of the following criteria: rationale for equivalency of the control and experimental groups before the beginning of the experiment with the help of Mann-Whitney U-test;

rationale for the bigger changes in the experimental group in comparison with the control group with the help of Mann-Whitney U-test; by the result of the research we can make a conclusion on confirmation or refutation of our hypothesis: using the debates method in training on professionally oriented communication in English is a condition for improvement of speech habit for professional communication .

According to the interpretation and the results of the experiment, the developed program turned to be one of the most efficient tool not only for improvement of speech habit in a foreign language on the whole but also for training analytical thinking and ability to express and prove an opinion .
